manufacturing machines involve a number of steps and cumbersome
processing for producing high quality and durable tyres. These machines
are perform quite a few functions right from compounding and mixing,
from milling to extruding and calendering.
Tyre Manufacturing Process
- Mixing and Compounding: Involves combining and mixing
rubber stock, carbon black and other ingredients and chemicals to
obtain a homogeneous rubber mix. Accelerators, anti-oxidants,
extenders, plasticizers, vulcanizers, resins and reinforcing agents
are added to obtain a mix having desired properties required for the
end product.
- Milling: Involves shaping of rubber into flat and long
strips; rubber is forced between two rolls moving in opposite
direction flatten it into long strips.
- Calendering: Involves further shaping the rubber by
forcing it through one or more rolls. The process transforms the
compounded rubber into a sheet of uniform thickness and width,
coating and frictioning rubber.
- Extruding: Involves forcing rubber through dies of pre
determined shapes. Extruders are used to make tyre treads.
- Curing and Vulcanizing: Green or soft rubber tyres are
put into curing process, which utilize steam to cure it.
Vulcanization of rubber increases its strength and makes it more
durable.
